What if we need to keep some backups longer than others?+
That's exactly what we configure. Different retention periods per data category: customer data 2 years, financial 7 years, marketing 1 year — whatever your Data Retention Policy specifies.
Can deleted backups be recovered?+
By design, no. GDPR requires actual deletion. We verify that purged backups cannot be recovered. If you need a "soft delete" grace period, we can add a 30-day recycle bin before permanent deletion.
Does this work with on-premise servers, not just cloud?+
Yes. For on-premise we use cron jobs with custom scripts. The logic is the same: scan → identify expired → notify → delete → log.
How do we prove to auditors that deletion happened?+
Every deletion operation is logged with timestamp, file path, size, and retention reason. Logs are stored separately and retained for the audit period. This is your evidence for GDPR Article 5(1)(e) compliance.
What if we accidentally set the wrong retention period?+
We add pre-deletion notifications 7 days before any batch deletion. This gives you time to review and cancel if needed. Additionally, we recommend testing lifecycle policies on non-production data first.
